Garou Equipment

Last Update:  04 August 2006

The table below shows equipment you may and may not use in the different forms.  This table is not perfect, so you find any other errors, please contact me on Darkwind or send me an email

You read the table from top to bottom for the equipment in question and you apply the first condition that matches.

NOTES

(1)  Carefully examine armor -- not all of them are "metallic".  For example:  the "Scalemail" you find on Volcano Island is made of dragon scales -- which is "organic", not "metallic" -- and is therefore usable.

(2)  Generally not allowed.   One known exception:  crystal tiara from Talamh Darag.

(3)  Generally not allowed.  Known exceptions:  scalemail, red dragon skin, possibly bone armor.

(4)  e.g., Grieves, Armguard, Bracers, Bracelets.

Example 1:  you have a Magical Staff and you want to know if you may use it in Man or Crinos forms.  The first line you come to is "Magic Items".  The Staff is a magic item, the block is NO for "Man" and "Crinos", so you may not use it.

Example 2:  you have a Silver Amulet and want to know if you may use it in Crinos form.  It's not a "Magic Item", nor is it a "Weapon", so we move down to "Armor" and we hit the subcategory "Silver", which is NO for "Crinos", so you may not use it.  (If the Amulet were not silver, you could use it).

Example 3:  you have a pair of Ethereal Bracers and want to know if you may use them in Crinos form.  They're not "Magic Items", nor are they "Weapons".  They are "Armor", but they're not "Silver", so you continue down the list until you reach "'Guard' Gloves".  The Bracers fall into the "Guard" category, so you may use them.  (If they were true "Gloves" instead of Bracers, then you would go down one more line and discover that you may not use them).

Example 4:  you have a naginata and want to know if you may use it in Man or Crinos.  If you "exa naginata", you'll see that it's a staff, which also makes it a "polearm".  You'll also see that it has a blade, so it's also "metallic."  It's not "magic", so you continue down the table to "weapons", coming to "Metallic or Silver Polearms", and you see that you have YES for both Man and Crinos, so you may use it.

Below is the GHELP file.  Please note that it may not bet 100% accurate because new items, which may include "garou exceptions", have come along since it was written.

                         Garou : Equipment
====================================================================

While a wolf has no need for sword or shirt, a Garou who decides to hunt in man or crinos form will naturally desire equipment to make the hunt easier. As a creature of Gaea, however, a Garou must take great care to stay away from equipment that the beloved goddess hates and abhors. A Garou using such equipment will lose all touch with Gaea and thus be unable to utilize any abilities.

Weapon Restrictions:

A Garou may not use magical weapons of any kind.
A Garou may not use missile weapons of any kind.
A Garou may not use silver weapons of any kind.
A Garou may not use metallic weapons of any kind.

Exception: A Garou may use metallic polearm weapons provided they are not magical or composed of silver.

Armor Restrictions:

A Garou may not wear magical armor of any kind.
A Garou may not wear silver armor of any kind.
A Garou may not wear metallic armor of any kind.
A Garou may not wear plate-type armor of any kind.

Exception: A Garou may use plate and/or metallic finger and amulet class armor provided such is not magical or silver.

Crinos Restrictions:

Since crinos are massive and powerful beasts, there are additional restrictions to what a crinos can wear. All of these restrictions are in addition to those listed above.

Crinos may not use shields.
Crinos may only wear greaves as leg armor.
Crinos may only wear armguards, bracelets, and bracers as arm armor.
Crinos may not wear helmets of any kind.
Crinos may not wear torso armor of any kind.
Crinos may not wear boots of any kind.

Exceptions: There are exceptional/special armors throughout the MUD that are specifically allowed for crinos use despite being restricted normally.
